What is the quality of the DVD/ISO recordings?

These movies come to us from many different sources and we do our best to locate the highest quality copies available. However, because most of them originate from a time before digital technology, they may show the snap, crackle, and pops (as well as graininess) of their historical origins. Please consider that part of the “cheesy charm” these treasures offer in order to soften your sophisticated 21st Century expectations.

How do I use ISO files?

Each ISO file is an image of an entire disc. This allows you to download a full DVD and then burn it to a physical disc yourself, rather than wait until a disc is delivered in the mail. Burning a new disc requires that you have a DVD drive capable of burning discs and disc burning software. We recommend the free utility ImgBurn if you don’t already have burning software.

Alternately, you can mount the ISO directly in your computer and run it as if it were a physical disc in Windows 10. Simple instructions are provided at How-To Geek. Or, simply play the ISO file as-is with something like the open source VLC Player.

These files are typically very large, often over 4 gigabytes, and downloads should only be considered if you have a fast connection and room on your local device to receive the file. Additionally, you may wish to use a download manager, such as the excellent and open source Free Download Manager (FDM) to improve the speed and reliability of the download.

What is the quality of the MP4 / M4V files?

These files have been compressed between 30-60% in order to save space and make them viewable on portable devices. The video quality is very close to the DVD versions, but they are not as high quality as true DVD (or ISO) recordings and aren’t really intended for viewing on large screens, such as that 150-inch 8K behemoth you have in your home theater. We recommend our standard DVDs/ISOs for large screen playback instead.

 How do I use MP4 / M4V files?

These files come to you either as a download, or in the case of larger collections, on a USB thumb drive or data DVD. They are provided in the MP4 format. This means they can be played by just about any portable device out there that supports the .MP4 extension. If your device only supports M4V, no problem! MP4 and M4V are the exact same file codec (MPEG-4 AVC H.264), just with different letters at the end of their filename. If you want M4V, it’s as simple as renaming the file.

A partial list of devices you can watch these on:

Android Phones and Tablets
iPhone, iPad, iPod, iPod Touch, iTunes, AppleTV
Kindle Fire
XBMC and Other Media Servers
… and just about every video viewer on any computer anywhere on any planet.

Will the DVD discs be compatible with my player?

99.9% of the time, YES! They are disc-image duplicated on premium quality name-brand DVD-R discs, using machines dedicated to the task. Consult the documentation of your DVD player to be sure it supports “DVD-R” discs (most units made within the last 10 years do). If you don’t have your documentation handy, please check the compatibility of your player before ordering! For the international folks, be sure your players and tellys support NTSC, as we cannot make PAL or SECAM discs at this time.

Will the DVD discs be compatible with my game console?

If you have the newest game consoles, the chances are very good. Unfortunately, the list of supported recordable DVD media for older game machines has been very inconsistent. In the past, it has been widely held that very few brands of DVD-Rs work consistently with them. Because of this, DVD-Rs cannot generally be recommended for playback on older game systems with any degree of confidence – but your results may vary (for example, the XBOX 360 seems fine). Some people have had no problems while others cannot play them at all. We recommend that if game consoles are to be your primary playback devices, you only purchase a single disc to test them with, prior to placing a larger order. Of course, MP4 files that you download will be compatible with all devices that play it.

Do the discs come in cases?

Even though we use premium brand discs, you will not find them delivered in fancy, flashy, full-color packaging. This would simply double their price. If you are looking for full retail cases for these discs, we apologize. What we sell is content! Our movies and radio shows are lovingly hand-crafted on DVD-R discs (with or without graphics printed on them) and delivered in plain white wrappers.

In the 1970s, “generic” products and labeling sprang up all over the country, epitomized by the UPC Code. The concept was simple: Don’t use photos or fancy packaging and pass the savings on to the customer. We follow the same principle here, knowing that our customers would rather have both Prehistoric Women AND Galaxina for the same price that others sell just one title (but in a pretty box).

How are the discs labeled?

Unless you opt for the printed graphics, we only write enough on the discs (near the hub) so you can identify which disc is which, and we write it in pencil so it can be erased. Different people have different likes and dislikes regarding labels and markings, so we let you decide what to do when you get them.

For the fancy-pants among us, we now offer pre-printed disc graphics, featuring the original movie poster for a small extra cost. Simply select the graphics option when adding your items to your shopping cart.

Can I use adhesive disc labels?

The discs we use have a white printable surface which is not a label. It is actually painted directly to the disc during the manufacturing process. This type of disc is used at the request of many people who use inkjet printers that can print directly to these discs, avoiding the many problems encountered with adhesive labels. We can send you non-white discs, if you wish (let us know during checkout), but we still don’t recommend labels (particularly the printable variety), for the following reasons:

1) They affect the weight balance that is essential when considering the high speed at which DVDs spin compared to CDs. This particular aspect is also effected by any or all of the following:
2) The paper tends to shrink or expand depending on age and relative humidity, which causes it to pull away from the disc or create buckled lumps.
3) The adhesive tends to decay with age, usually by becoming brittle and the paper then no longer sticks to the disc.
4) While the labels may adhere initially to the white printable discs, their surface is somewhat porous in order to accept the printer ink. This means that they will not hold adhesive nearly as well as a glossy surface (think of a decal on normal flat wall paint verses on a window). Also, the thickness of a label added to this surface may cause playback problems in some players, even if they do adhere fairly well.

Where did all the MST3K go?

Sadly, the Powers-That-Be have decided that fan copies of MST3K are no longer allowed, and we have complied. Don’t hate them, it’s their job.

There is a Old Time Radio show I’m looking for, but you don’t have it.

Oh, I bet we do! We have over 80,000 OTR shows and if we don’t have it, it’s probably not available. However, most of the shows we have are not listed in their own product page yet, so we have created a way for you to place a special order and save a chunk of change too! Check out the Full List of OTR to place an order request.

We are adding more to our catalog each day, but we haven’t had time to enter details for each one yet. As we enter titles into our catalog for sale and download, their respective title in the table will become a link to that product in the store for your convenience. If the title is not a live link yet, simply submit the form at the bottom of the page with the title(s) you would like and we will create those store entries AND give you a 30% off coupon for those items! We will then contact you when the store is updated and your order is ready to be placed.

About Our Website

Is this a secure site?

You betcha! Cheesyflix.com utilizes RC4 256 bit SSL High Grade Encryption for your sensitive account information and credit card transactions! In fact, we use it for every page, not just those that are account-related. What does this mean? It means you get a nifty little “lock” icon in your browser! (it also means that nobody will be able to view sensitive information as it travels between your computer and this site).

What promotions and rewards are you offering?

We generally have several ongoing promotions:

        • Leave 3 Reviews and Get a FREE Download of Your Choice! When a customer leaves a product review for three different products within one week, they will receive a coupon for one download of their choice. We do not edit or censor reviews, and your honesty is appreciated. We encourage you to only leave reviews of products that you actually own or have seen. This is the honor system – be honorable!     All reviews are subject to spam-filtering and pre-approval (e.g., do not include links – you will be flagged as a spammer). You will receive your coupon via your customer email once the reviews post. You may (please!) leave as many reviews as you like, but this offer is limited to one free download coupon per person.
        • Semi-regular Discount Emails!  Be sure to sign up for our Specials and Sales email. Not only will you get occasional emails featuring discounts and coupons (typically only sent about once or twice per month), but you will also get 20% off immediately when you sign up! If you are already a customer, then you already receive these emails, unless you later opted out. If you opted out and wish to receive discount emails again, Contact Us.
        • Rewards Points for Purchases! (not currently active) Former customers of earlier incarnations of CheesyFlix will remember that we had a popular Reward Points Program that gave discounts based upon the total amount of previous purchases. We are currently evaluating options to begin that program again, but don’t hold your breath – the best tools for that program are expensive and we are not sure that it would increase sales enough to justify the cost. Stay tuned!
        • Affiliates Program! (not currently active) We are evaluating ways to reward people who post links to CheesyFlix.com. Stay tuned!

The Fine Print: All promotions and rewards programs are subject to change/cancellation/discontinuance without notice and without any additional compensation to participants, beyond what they earned up to the time of cancellation.

About Your Order

How long will it take to receive my discs/thumb drive?

Generally, your discs and thumb drives will be mailed out within 1-3 days of receiving your order and they should arrive at any US destination within 2-3 days after that. However, we occasionally get backlogged, so please allow 1-2 weeks for your order to arrive. Please allow 2 weeks for international orders to clear customs. If you are paying by money order, we will wait to receive your payment before we ship your order. All US and APO orders are sent out via USPS 1st Class for small orders of 8 or fewer discs and via Priority Mail for orders of 9 discs or more. Orders outside the US are sent via airmail. You will receive an email at the time each order ships.

I did not receive any links for the download products I ordered. What’s the deal?

Generally, MP4 files that you purchased will be available for download immediately* after payment is verified. ISO files that you purchased will be available within 24 hours after payment is verified (you will receive notice/links via email).

*We decided to launch the new store before all the downloadable product links were activated because it takes a tremendous amount of work to set them all up and we just couldn’t wait!

Your order confirmation email will include the link(s) if they are active. For orders where a link is not yet activated, we will usually send you the link via email within 24hrs. A few products in the Cheesy Movies category will require a few days to remaster for quality, but you will receive notice of that fact and the files should be available in 1-2 days.

All disc and USB thumb drive orders are being taken and processed as normal; the delay ONLY impacts SOME digital downloads.

I haven’t received any updates or confirmation of my order. Are you ignoring me?

Absolutely not! Confirmations and updates are automatically sent to the email address you provide at the following events: When you create an account, when you place an order, when we acknowledge and begin processing your order, when your order ships, and any time an order is changed. However, if you are not receiving these emails, please check your email spam filters to ensure that they weren’t accidentally trapped there. If you add our email address (cheesyflix@cheesyflix.com) to your “always allow” list (or “whitelist”) in your email provider’s spam filter settings, this will prevent that from happening in the future. You may also wish to log in to your account at CheesyFlix and ensure there were no typos or spelling mistakes in your provided email address. For more information regarding spam blockers and specific services for your email host, please visit their site for details on how to “whitelist” our email.

I live in England / Taiwan / Iceland / Quebec / Planet Marklar / Alabama. Can I order these?

Absolutely! Fans world-wide (over 30 countries so far) have enjoyed our discs! We charge a flat international postage rate, regardless of order size (so make large orders, wink-wink). APO addresses are charged at the US rate. Make sure that your equipment can play back NTSC video, since we have no way to make PAL or SECAM discs at this time. If somebody would like to donate the conversion equipment to us, on the other hand…

We are still awaiting an order from the Vatican City, but it hasn’t happened yet… anybody know the Pope’s phone number?

Payment, Shipping, Returns

The short, but easy-to-dance-to Teenage Version (tl;dr):

          • We don’t ship until payment clears.
          • We try to get your order out to you in a week (but it can take longer, especially outside the US).
          • We proudly support our socialist US Postal Service.
          • No refunds.
          • We will replace defective items.

The long, Modern Jazz Version.

When I try to download, the file plays instead of saving.

Normally, you would simply need to click on the link to download, but if the files starts playing instead of downloading, right-click on the link instead, and choose “Save file” or “Save link as” and you should be given the option of where to save the file.

The option to make it automatically play instead of download is adjustable within your browser settings:

          • In FireFox, you would check this by going to Tools > Options, then scroll down to Applications. Within the Content Type window, look for MP4 and M4V video files. Change their Action settings to “Always ask”. Do the same for ISO and ZIP files, if they are listed.
          • In Chrome, go to Settings > Show Advanced Settings > Downloads section. Check “Ask where to save each file before downloading” option.
          • In Opera, go to Settings > Browser. Scroll to the “Downloads” section. Check “Ask where to save each file before downloading ” option.

Other browsers likely have similar settings.
